HR Engineering have already given us the rear wheel drive Mk1 Golf running a turbocharged 350bhp Hayabusa…and a few months ago i came across this…

Running a 20vt engine, Hybrid GT28 with 890cc Siemens injectors and Wossner 8.5:1 pistons… rolling on slicks and weighing just 600kg.

“Been busy with engine upgrades. Done so far:

- New FMIC
- Catless downpipe
- Oil cooler
- Different dump valve
- Hybrid turbo

Started with 205bhp, 217lbf at 6500rpm. Now I’m at 245bhp and 258lbf at 5000rpm. Something above the 5000rpm is wrong as the power just drops. Need to look into that but DI engines are a bitch to tune. If it works as expected it should result in 260bhp at 6500rpm.”

“Next on the list is:

- Water meth injection
- Camshaft

Hopefully the end result will be just above 300bhp.”

Rob Godwin’s 93 Eunos

So whats making everyone want a little japanese two seater roadster…

This particular one was imported from Japan in 2004, purchased by Rob late 2009. The car he says “was almost standard” now however is a completely different story. Many who went to Edition38 last summer will of seen this thing parked up, it caught my eye for sure. Sitting on some Ats Cups 15×9 et10 with 195/45′s on the rear, and 15×7 et-5 with 165/50′s on the front, sitting slammed to the floor and with that huge noticiable carbon rear wing and RS Active low profile headlights.

The 5 now sits on a set of Rota Grid V’s 15×8 et0 all round and 195/45  Toyo T1R’s, with 1.8 spec front brakes behind them. Stainless 4branch manifold & Decat leading to the stainless dual exit exhaust. All kept in check with some lovely HSD Coilovers…

Rob – “Just finished compiling parts for a 200+bhp turbo conversion including Greddy TD-04, Universal Intercoolers FMIC, Megasquirt ECU, Supra injectors and so on…” This sounds like its about to get interesting but for now…

So 2 hours before i was due to post, i got a call…

Rob – “Cambered A-road, 2 people in the car, over taking some cyclists, bumpy tarmac, catseyes, big noises, massive white smoke cloud, bad smells, oily puddles, bad times… “, “Well if you’re gonna do it… May as well do it properly…”
