Went to visit Joe Thompson today, owner of a black phase1 106 Rallye, but with something a bit different shoved in the front of it.
The car started life with a 1.3 8v 100 bhp engine. This was swapped for a 106 gti unit, with 76,000 miles on it. It was fully rebuilt, and had a custom inlet manifold made for it by Bogg Brothers, so that R6 bike throttle bodies could be used. A 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and full stainless were bolted on, then it was off for a full set up at Mikeanics, to get the most out of the engine using the KMS mangement system.
Engine:
106 Gti engine
R6 throttle bodies, balanced and jetted with a custom choke set up
Cat Cam 708 cams
KMS standalone management with launch control
Fuel cut off switch
Aluminuminlet manifold
Heat wrapped 4-2-1 manifold
Straight though center section
287mm big brake set up
Larger mater cylinder and servo
Braided hoses
5.1 race fluid
Fresh fuel lines throughout
Full braided fuel lines
Chassis:
Rear: Gaz gold rear dampers on full build rear axle
Front: Apexi damper and springs
205 Gti Speedline alloys wrapped in Toyo Proxi tyres
The interior is fully stripped, with only two Recaro speed seats, and Sabelt harnesses, and it just so happens, he has an EK9 civic to play with aswell.
